POCUShub Academy to advance point-of-care ultrasound education

GE HealthCare and the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES) have officially opened the POCUShub Academy, a new education and training centre designed to expand access to point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training for healthcare professionals across the Nordics and beyond.

The Academy was inaugurated on August 28 in Copenhagen during an event attended by numerous healthcare professionals, educators, healthcare leaders. 

As healthcare systems across Europe face increasing demand, workforce shortages, and growing pressure to deliver faster diagnoses and treatment, point-of-care ultrasound is becoming an increasingly valuable clinical tool. Used directly at the bedside, ultrasound can help clinicians assess a wide range of conditions in real time, from heart and lung disease to trauma, abdominal conditions, and pregnancy-related complications. 

Unlike traditional imaging workflows that may require separate appointments or specialist referrals, point-of-care ultrasound allows healthcare professionals to obtain immediate diagnostic information during patient consultations, supporting faster clinical decisions and potentially reducing delays in care.

The successful integration of ultrasound into routine practice depends on education, hands-on training, and clinician confidence. This need is becoming increasingly important as ultrasound expands beyond radiology and cardiology into emergency medicine, intensive care, internal medicine, anaesthesiology, primary care, and other specialties. 

The newly opened POCUShub Academy seeks to address this challenge by providing healthcare professionals with access to structured learning pathways, simulation-based training, expert-led courses, and practical experience using advanced ultrasound systems. 

The initiative combines the educational resources of POCUShub, GE HealthCare's global ultrasound learning platform, with CAMES' internationally recognized expertise in medical education and simulation. "Point-of-care ultrasound is changing the way clinicians evaluate patients across a growing number of healthcare settings. To fully realize its potential, healthcare professionals need access not only to technology but also to high-quality education and practical training. Through the POCUShub Academy, we aim to help clinicians build confidence, strengthen competencies, and ultimately improve patient care," said James Moteleb, General Manager Point-of-Care Ultrasound International, GE HealthCare. 

"Simulation and hands-on training play a critical role in helping healthcare professionals translate knowledge into practice. By combining educational expertise with modern ultrasound technologies, we hope to support healthcare professionals throughout their learning journey and contribute to safer, more effective patient care," said Lars Konge, Professor, Consultant, PhD, CAMES. 

The opening of the POCUShub Academy marks an important step in expanding access to ultrasound education and reflects a shared ambition by GE HealthCare and CAMES to support the next generation of healthcare professionals with the skills needed to meet evolving patient and healthcare system needs.
