Innovative hybrid OR imaging: first Endovascular Navigation integrated into a mobile C-arm
In the fast-evolving world of modern endovascular surgery, precision and efficiency in surgical procedures are crucial. Ziehm Imaging has once again set the bar high with its latest innovation Endovascular Navigation¹. This ground-breaking software solution is the first of its kind fully integrated into a mobile C-arm. Endovascular Navigation seamlessly incorporates fusion imaging capabilities to plan, perform and review the procedures on one single system. It supports physicians in their endovascular interventions and allows intraoperative vascular fusion imaging directly from the sterile field to achieve higher accuracy. Endovascular Navigation provides an easy, fast and seamless workflow and offers unparalleled precision during complex procedures and expands treatment options like never before. First clinical evidence from a renowned German university hospital supports its successful impact on surgical efficiency and patient care.
From diagnosis to navigation
The easy-to-work-with workflow begins with the preoperative planning of the procedure based on the CT data used for diagnosis. After that, Endovascular Navigation is utilized for the transfer of data to the C-arm and the fusion of the preoperative and the live image data for automatic registration. This enhances the overall accuracy of the intervention.

We are particularly impressed by the automatic re-registration after changing the position of the C-arm
Johannes Kalder
The integration of all imaging and navigation capabilities into a single user interface offers significant advantages. Surgeons can now access essential imaging and endovascular navigation tools directly from the interventional table. Therefore, there is no need to switch between devices and the workflow efficiency is highly improved. This solution not only enhances the surgical experience, but also saves valuable space in the OR – a critical factor in busy healthcare environments.
Prof. Dr. Johannes Kalder is chief physician of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg and praises the practicability of Endovascular Navigation: "We are very proud to be the first in the world to use this groundbreaking new technology on a mobile C-arm. Endovascular Navigation allows us to bring planning and fusion imaging to the C-arm and work directly from the sterile field as we are used to. The image quality and workflow improvements set a new benchmark in mobile imaging. We are particularly impressed by the automatic re-registration after changing the position of the C-arm.”

Reduce contrast media and radiation dose
Sharif Elshafei, consultant in Prof. Kalder’s team of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg, emphasizes: “The blend of preoperative information from CT data with intraoperative live X-ray images is a game changer. The savings in procedure time and the reduction of contrast media and radiation dose make a real difference for us and our patients. It's a significant step forward to how we approach endovascular procedures.”
Easy and fast fusion imaging thanks to AI-based algorithms
Endovascular Navigation has been specifically designed for interventions within the aorto-iliac region and is applicable for Endovascular Aneurysm Repairs (EVARs) and complex Fenestrated Endovascular Aortic Repairs (FEVARs), among others. By using advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, the software automates vascular image fusion, ensuring rapid response times and optimal outcomes in demanding surgical settings.
Ziehm Imaging's product manager for Endovascular Navigation, Franziska Abele, is happy about the successful clinical evidence: “We are thrilled to hear such positive feedback on Endovascular Navigation from leading experts like Prof. Kalder and Sharif Elshafei. This validates our commitment to deliver high-end solutions for improved clinical outcome, better clinical performance and enhanced workflows. We are proud that we have reached a new level of excellence in mobile endovascular procedures with this all-in-one solution.”
