The Fresenius Inventors' Fair
Turning a brilliant idea into a market-ready product can be a long and arduous task.
The 10th Fresenius Inventors' Fair, taking place at Medica, could make that route easier for inventors.
At this international forum the healthcare group Fresenius aims to help them publicise their inventions and to find professional partners from the private sector, as well as potential investors to help fund further development, potential mass production and marketing.
Today, Wednesday 19 November, the three best inventions (submitted by doctors, life sciences researchers, engineers and medical and/or care professionals, will receive the Fresenius Inventors’ Prize, and will share the 10,000 euros award.
An independent jury of medical and business specialists has selected the three best innovations received. Emphasis was placed on the potential benefits and novelty of an idea. ‘Feasibility is also a key trait of winning innovations,’ explained Dr Martin Hepper, a member of the 2006 Inventors’ Prize jury. For example, one previously successful entry, for example – from orthopaedic specialist Michael Arnold – was two orthopaedic surgical instruments that enable a relatively gentle removal of worn prostheses, regardless of the original model or manufacturer.
Fresenius is providing selected applicants with exhibition space and stands free of charge, so that they can showcase their innovations and discuss them with specialists and the media.
