MEDICA 2023: Düsseldorf at the centre of the global healthcare industry
Federal Minister of Health to attend the launch via video link
The world's leading medical trade fair MEDICA 2023 starts on Monday in Düsseldorf with more than 5,300 exhibiting companies from almost 70 nations and the kick-off event for the accompanying 46th German Hospital Day, which will be attended by Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (via video link) and NRW Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann. COMPAMED 2023 will take place parallel to MEDICA. As the leading international trade fair for suppliers to the medical technology industry, it has around 730 participants from 39 countries (duration MEDICA + COMPAMED: November 13-16, 2023).
MEDICA is organised into themed areas and presents a comprehensive range of products and services for modern healthcare in medical practices and clinics: from laboratory technology and diagnostics, medical technology and electromedicine, consumables and supplies, physiotherapy procedures and orthopaedic technology to IT solutions.
This year, the focus will be on the digital transformation of the healthcare system in the context of the increasing "outpatientisation" of care and networking between clinics. Other trends include processes based on artificial intelligence (AI) and supporting systems such as robotics systems as well as solutions for implementing more sustainable processes. The exhibitor innovations on show include an AI-controlled wearable for improving sleep quality (through brain stimulation based on precise neurofeedback signals), an energy-saving yet effective cryotherapy procedure and an application for identifying counterfeit medication via smartphone and barcode system.
MEDICA's target groups are, in particular, doctors, specialists from hospital management, science and research as well as from the medical trade and industry. In addition to the trade fair, they are also offered a comprehensive range of accompanying conferences. These include the German Hospital Day for hospital management, the MEDICA Medicine + Sports Conference for sports medicine trends and DiMiMED, the international conference for disaster and military medicine. The forums integrated into the trade fair also offer in-depth information and professional dialogue on practical solutions. These include the MEDICA Health IT Forum and MEDICA Connected Healthcare Forum (including the 12th MEDICA Start-up Competition), which address all relevant digital health developments.
Parallel to MEDICA 2023, COMPAMED 2023 in Halls 8a and 8b will focus on everything that is needed to manufacture medical products and devices. This includes components, parts and equipment through to complex high-tech solutions (e.g. innovative materials, micro and nanotechnology, manufacturing processes, cleanroom packaging technologies).
In the previous year, MEDICA and COMPAMED attracted a total of 81,000 trade visitors (2021: 46,000).
The halls are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
