Accurate color for pathology diagnosis

JVC KENWOOD introduces new display and calibration kit

The digital pathology places particularly high demands on the image quality and thus on the monitors. Especially the exact color rendering is a challenge - no other discipline needs such precision for a reliable diagnosis.

JVC KENWOOD fully meets these requirements with its new 24.1-inch color monitor JD-C240. "It is the result of intensive research and development work," says Marcel Herrmann, Marketing Manager TOTOKU at JVCKENWOOD. "In doing so, we are drawing on the many years of experience in the professional video sector, especially regarding color calibration and adjustment."

We have taken a completely new approach

The JD-C240 has some new, innovative technologies. One is the contrast enhancement that was developed specifically for imaging in pathology. Usually, such technologies only improve the contrast and the dynamics, but this leads to a less realistic image reproduction. "To avoid this, we have taken a completely new approach," says Herrmann. "The contrast enhancement recognizes transitions like structures and improves them. The rest of the picture remains untouched."

The color enhancement gives the user full control over the color reproduction. So far, only red, green and blue could be adjusted. "With our monitor, users can select any color from RGB or CMYK and adjust the color saturation, hue and brightness. In addition, a tolerance for the settings can be specified for each channel," Herrmann explains the advantages of the technology.

Same color impression on all displays

However, if you want to take full advantage of the possibilities of a monitor, you cannot ignore regular calibration. Especially in pathology it is important that the display reproduces all colors unadulterated. In addition, it is important that all monitors within a workflow display the characteristics the same. "All of this is supported by our new calibration kit CAL016 on the JD-C240," explains Herrmann. "For the first time, we will be able to profile all displays within the hospital and thus ensure a uniform image impression across all departments." Furthermore, the CAL016 also supports the 3D Look Up Table of the JVC JD-C240.
