A network for young EU health politicians

Junior European health politicians have few opportunities to exchange ideas and coordinate activities. However, due to a pilot project and years of cooperation between the European Commission and the European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG), a new concept has arisen to meet their needs.

The organisers report that the Young Forum Gastein is being designed as a network of young health politicians and those in healthcare administration and political sciences. ‘Since EHFG has developed into one of the major health policy events in the EU, its invitation extended to a junior scientist, administration and policy expert from each EU Member State is particularly important. This is the foundation of a Europe-wide network of junior leaders, which, in the coming years, will contribute significantly to an intensified cooperation of the Member states with regard to health and healthcare policy; the creation of databases and the development of common objectives and of cross-border solutions.’
EU Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou acknowledged the significance of the initiative, and extensively listened to and discussed this with young experts during the recent EHFG held in Austria.
