Marco Marchetti MD is Director of the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Unit at the Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli and of the International Master Programme in HTA and Management (http://www.ulyssesprogram.net/). His expertise lies in hospital management, quality assurance, risk management and HTA.
Dr Marchetti will explore the impact of the IT radiology innovation process on healthcare system and healthcare organisation according to the principles of the Health Technology Assessment (HTA). ‘HTA is a multidisciplinary process producing information on the impact of introducing technology into a healthcare system. HTA is a useful tool that produced information for the policy-making decision process at the macro-level system (national, regional level) and meso-level system (institutional level or healthcare organisational level).
Information produced during an HTA process relate to different dimensions — effectiveness, economics, organisation, social, ethical and legal impact. This information can be used by policy makers, at different levels, to decide how to invest and manage technology (in our case IT technology) both in healthcare and its organisation.
