Now they can talk to each other

CT motion CT contrast agent injector from ulrich medical and CT scanners from Siemens communicate

For radiologists and radiology technologists, this development will mean advantages in workflow and documentation of injection parameters.

Thanks to the new "SYNCopen" interface between the CT motion CT contrast agent injector from ulrich medical and CT scanners from Siemens, these two respected medical technology companies now offer the option of synchronizing scans and contrast agent injections in computed tomography. Having injection parameters available and displayed at the scanner console allows medical personnel to optimize the entire examination before and during a scan.
Users can coordinate the startup timing for the scanner and injector simply by clicking a button, deciding for themselves whether the startup process will be triggered from the scanner or from the injector console.
"The coordinated triggering of scanner and injector makes it very convenient and much easier to control contrast enhancement during CT examinations," says Dieter Bender, who heads up sales at ulrich medical. "Both instruments can now talk to each other via the "SYNCopen" interface, which not only optimizes workflow and efficiency within radiology departments—it also generates complete digital documentation for the examination."
Injection parameters can automatically be saved in patient records, in the e-logbook and in MPPS (Modality Performed Procedure Step) and imported into hospitals' RIS and PACS systems along with the scan records. This eliminates the need for documenting data separately and allows users to call up data at any time from a central location.
The SYNCopen interface from ulrich medical is available for the Somatom Definition, Definition AS, Definition Flash and Definition Edge scanner modalities from Siemens. The CARE Contrast II software module is compatible with the interface and is sold by Siemens.
"Linking our contrast agent injectors to CT scanners is an extremely important factor in providing medical practices with a smooth, fast process for generating high-quality contrast agent scans," says Bender. "Expanding the interface to other scanner modalities and to scanners from other manufacturers—and adding features—is definitely a priority for us."
